What Happens when you've decided what you would like
Picture
An Enquiry

Once you place an enquiry, I contact you straight away via email to find out your needs and requirements… if it is for a #map, or car type or something els, we then discuss and finalise what your requirements are.

Picture
An Order

When your order is placed, I search the net for your specifications.., then design a pattern for such and create your very own file with the details of your cushion.

Here is where you can send a photograph of a subject so I can use this as a focus, enabling a truly unique idea, ie…. It can be a car….; a colour scheme of your home or photoshot….; portrait…. and such.

Picture
I refer to the colours chosen that suit your requirements, sourcing new, vintage and up-cycled fabrics so each cushion is individual to you and use applique, sewing and embroidery techniques, so each one will be different from the next.

"I have some fabulous colours, textures and designs and some beautiful tweeds,
vintage and new braiding and ribbons…
...it’s like a treasure chest for me, when I source and search through the fabrics seeking the perfect ones.
I source Designer Quality up-cycled and vintage clothing in linens, cottons and silks –
from Charity Shops in the area.
It often takes days to find just that right colour for someone, which is why I allow 7 – 14 days to make one, just in case I don’t have the right stock in my workroom."

Once purchased I wash washable clothing and dry clean others.

I separate the fabric pieces into usable parts, steam press them and prepare them for the appliqué process.
This takes some time and is very messy, I get covered in cotton bits and look like a scarecrow during this process…. but it has to be done to ensure quality and standards….
Now the searching and sorting from the boxes in my workroom - fabric and materials everywhere –
I collate many ideas of fabrics together, then adjust and plan which designs are the best look, theme, feel and style of the cushion, or canvas I am working on.

It's a work of art!
"The workroom looks like a hurricane has blown through when I am in the midst of it all...
...but I think they call it ‘organised chaos’…."
Picture
I draw each design by hand, for a fine detailed template (they look so lovely in pen drawings that I feel sad they are just put back in my file box – they should be shown or displayed)…

Picture
...then break each down into a pattern format… some pieces have many many parts to them and they each have to be accurate to fit, parallel and symmetrical in their designs – especially in a car.

Picture
The pattern is then cut out, fabric prepared - after deciding on the designs, colours I've put together – which can take some time -and I am ready to start stitching.

Picture

Cushion fabric is selected from my stash, cut out and prepared, the pattern pieces are pinned and placed on, then meticulously stitched all around the intricate shapes, to ensure all pieces are in place and securely fixed…..

Picture
....of course I have shortened this process – or I would be here all day – and not mentioned ironing, interfacing, pressing, trimming, cutting of all the different parts.

Picture
Eventually the machine stitching is complete, then I add the embellishment shapes that you choose… preparing much as above.  Pressing again with steamer cloth, ready to start free-hand embroidery.

Picture

This can be in chain stitch, stem stitch…… using embroidery silks with their jewel-like colours…

Hand embroidery takes some time to complete and is not a quick process, this can be names, signatures, motifs, numbers, letters …

Completing

- Pressing
- adding the label
- stitching around the cushion
- trimming the edges and corners and turning through
- pressing again
- double-top-stitching around the edge, giving a clean, neat line.
- Hollow-fibre fills the cushion, then we close and finish off.
- Fluff the cushion, step back and admire….

-Then it is shipped off, so you can enjoy it in your home.

So, that is the process (shortened) that goes into each cushion, you can select various options to go with your room or to have some as a feature.

They are filled with hollow-fibre that is non- allergic and are suitable as decorations only for Under 3’s, due to small parts that are securely stitched on, and should be wipe cleaned or gently hand-washed.

The series of photographs illustrates the step-by-steps to creating your cushion with the same care and attention going in to canvases, bags and all my work.

All you need to do now is to decide Where you need a cushion, Who needs a cushion, Theme and Colours for your Cushion and to Contact Me.

I am always here to listen and ready to design a one (or two) - off cushion, just for you.
